The University Hospital Foundation was created in 1962 by an act in the Alberta legislature. In the decades since, we have evolved into one of the most successful hospital fundraising organizations in Canada. We raise funds to advance patient care and innovation at the University of Alberta Hospital, the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute and the Kaye Edmonton Clinic. 

We are passionate promoters of the power of generosity – your generosity – to change and save lives in our community. We inspire people to help advance our hospitals as world leaders in specialized and complex care. Thanks to your donations, the University Hospital Foundation has raised $217 million in the past 10 years and that tally is growing every day. Dr. Jodi L. Abbott, ICD.D.

President and CEO

Dr. Jodi L. Abbott is a leader, a doer, and a woman of vision who believes that by bringing the right people from industry, government, healthcare and academia together – along with our invaluable donors – we can ignite the kind of change that transforms health in Alberta and around the world. Dr. Abbott strives to accelerate the impact of her actions for the benefit of community.

As President and CEO of the University Hospital Foundation, and former Senior Vice President, Quality Performance Improvement with Alberta Health Services, Dr. Abbott understands as well as anyone the ever-changing dynamics of Alberta’s healthcare system. Philanthropy can play a strategic and life changing role in accelerating advancements in disease prevention and patient care through research and innovation, the introduction of leading edge equipment and technology, and initiating new models of care.

Her previous accomplishments include ten years as President and CEO of NorQuest College, during which time the school’s enrolment more than doubled and the stunning new Singhmar Centre for Learning opened (2017); Chairing the Edmonton Metropolitan Region Board and Edmonton’s Health City initiative; and, for fun, serving as an international figure skating judge at the 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics Games. Dr. Abbott has been recognized for her leadership in sport, academia, healthcare and community being named as one of the Top 100 Most Powerful Women by the Women’s Executive Network in 2015 and 2018.

Lisa Munro

Chief Development Officer

As our Chief Development Officer, Lisa Munro brings years of award-winning experience to broaden and elevate the very core of what we do at the University Hospital Foundation – fundraising.

A seasoned marketing and development professional, Lisa spent 14 years with Oilers Entertainment Group (OEG), most recently as Senior Director, Corporate Partnerships. That position gave her a unique window on how regional and national brands connect with communities across Canada.

Before joining OEG, Lisa worked for 15 years in various leadership roles at CIBC—again delivering a national brand’s promise at a local level. In her work as Alberta Regional Business Development Manager for CIBC’s Marketing and Segment Sales, Lisa won three National Sales awards for top performance and one Annual Achievers award for Sales Leadership.

Maureen Moneta, CPA, CA

VP Finance & Operations

As VP of Finance and Operations since 2015, Maureen Moneta has overseen the largest expansion of staffing and services in our history. Managing finance, investments, compliance, planning and human resource functions, Maureen’s ongoing passion and purpose is serving her community.

Recently elected to the Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) Alberta Board, and a recipient of the CPA Early Achievement Award, Maureen’s commitment to her profession is equaled by her dedication to her role as an indigenous leader within the Edmonton area, Metis Nation of Alberta, non-profit sector and Chartered Professional Accountants of Alberta. Maureen was also recognized as an Edify Edmonton Top 40 Under 40 in the 2020 Class.

Jamie Bliss

VP Marketing & Communications

As VP of Marketing and Communications, Jamie Bliss oversees the most essential element to all successful fundraising – storytelling. His team’s mission is to find the best stories and tell them in the most compelling way(s) to bring the complexities of healthcare to your doorstep.

Prior to joining the University Hospital Foundation, Jamie was Director, Marketing and Communications at Fountain Tire, one of North America’s largest tire and service dealers, where he led successful marketing campaigns that significantly increased market share for Fountain Tire, and won numerous awards.
