Support Innovation in Workplace Wellness
The Dr. Masaru Yukawa Award for Innovation in Workplace Wellness will be awarded annually to support projects and initiatives that seek to better understand or to improve the social, cultural and psychological health of the operating rooms and allied areas of the University of Alberta Hospital.
The award was established by the colleagues of Dr. Masaru Yukawa, a dynamic young man and supremely talented physician, who took his own life following a longstanding and very private battle with mental illness.
About Dr. Yukawa and the award
Dr. Masaru Yukawa, or Mas, was an outstanding clinician, teacher and mentor. He was passionate about taking good care of his patients. He was committed to improving anesthetic care in developing countries and gave freely of his time and money in order to do so.
None of those who had the honor of knowing the late Mas Yukawa will ever forget him. By contributing to this fund, you’re helping to create incentives for people of all disciplines to identify shortcomings in the workplace that might have a negative effect on the mental health of those who work there.
We are looking for innovative thinkers who aim to improve workplace wellness in operating rooms. Applications are due August 31, 2021 and the individual or group representing the winning submission will receive $5,000. This award is an opportunity to create a lasting partnership where the winner will receive ongoing support with their initiative.
