Kaye Competition 2024 Open to Submissions

Funding ground-breaking advancements: 2024 Kaye Competition submissions open

The University Hospital Foundation is pleased to announce that submissions are now open for the 2024 Kaye Competition, which funds local healthcare professionals’ research and quality improvement programs and projects that directly advance patient care.

The annual competition is a partnership between the University Hospital Foundation and the University of Alberta Hospital (inclusive of the Kaye Edmonton Clinic and the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute), made possible thanks to a $30-million donation in 2012 by the late Donald Kaye, a local philanthropist and retired businessman.

Each year, local researchers and clinical teams are invited to submit their research or quality improvement projects for consideration. In line with Mr. Kaye’s wishes, 75 per cent of the funding is earmarked for critical work on cancer, pulmonary diseases, diabetes and neurology. The remaining funding allocation is available for additional areas at the discretion of the Competition’s Steering Committee.

Since its inception in 2017, the Kaye Competition has awarded over $6 million to 41 research and clinical teams who are using innovative approaches, new partnerships and bold ideas to bring the right people,
resources and solutions together to advance patient care.

“The impact of Mr. Kaye’s generous donation continues to grow through the leading-edge projects funded by the Kaye Competition. His visionary gift has provided critical support to projects that might otherwise never get off the ground,” says Dr. Jodi Abbott, President and CEO of the University Hospital Foundation. “We’re very fortunate to have so many exceptional leaders, health researchers and clinicians in Edmonton, and we’re excited to see what innovative projects will be funded through the 2024 Kaye Competition.”

Initial letters of intent must be submitted by November 18, 2024 and winners will be announced in June 2025. More information is available at https://givetouhf.ca/kaye-competition/.
