Your Purpose

As a Gift Shop Attendant you will support the University Hospital Foundation Gift Shop / Emporium in providing exceptional service and contributing to specialized programs through sales, serving hospital visitors and staff with personal care items, gifts, and more, while also ensuring efficient operations and adherence to policies.

We are currently looking to expand our Gift Shop hours and looking to fill three part-time, casual positions with key holder responsibilities (two different shifts of up to 14 hours / week).

Your Role  

The University Hospital Foundation Gift Shop / Emporium is situated within the University of Alberta Hospital and directs the proceeds generated from sales towards specialized programs that align with the University Hospital Foundation (UHF) mission. Conveniently located at the Walter C. Mackenzie Centre, adjacent to the 114th Street entrance, the University Hospital Foundation Gift Shop / Emporium serves as a one-stop destination for hospital visitors, patients, their families, and staff offering personal care products, reading material, gifts, ornaments, clothes, and snacks.

Your responsibilities will encompass:

  • Delivering exceptional customer service to all patrons of the Gift Shop
  • Executing opening and closing procedures efficiently
  • Ensuring strict adherence to cash handling policies, processes, and protocols
  • Providing valuable support to our team of volunteers

Qualifications

  • Experience in a leadership or supervisory role
  • 1+ years of retail experience
  • Point of sale and cash handling experience
  • Demonstrate a commitment to customer service
  • Possess a strong sense of confidentiality
  • Have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Use good judgement when applying initiative to make decisions on a daily basis
  • Be an example for others and always represent the values of the UHF which include: Customer Driven and True to our Word.
  • Able to be flexible and adapt to changing circumstances and unexpected situations
