University Hospital Foundation Launches Awareness Campaign Showcasing Life-Changing Health Care Innovations for Albertans

Edmonton, AB – October 28, 2024

The University Hospital Foundation is proud to announce the launch of its Hope is Here campaign, a bold initiative to raise awareness of the groundbreaking health care advancements funded through the generosity of its donors. Airing on television and radio, as well as billboards and online until mid-December 2024, this campaign showcases groundbreaking research and innovations.

Hope is Here highlights the tangible outcomes of our donors’ support,” says Dr. Jodi Abbott, President and CEO of the University Hospital Foundation. “With their help, we’re funding projects that bring life-changing health solutions to Alberta, offering new hope to patients and their families when it’s needed most. From potentially finding a cure for Alzheimer’s to revolutionizing cardiac care with advanced technology, the Hope is Here campaign aims to inspire our community and propel our message into the holiday season by sharing the hope and possibilities that our donors are creating for a healthier future.”

The Hope is Here campaign will spotlight several high-impact projects that are bringing hope to Albertans:

  • Revolutionary Alzheimer’s Research: The Foundation is funding critical Alzheimer’s research by Dr. Jack Jhamandas, Dr. Lorne Tyrrell and their team at the University of Alberta, currently nearing human trials. The research is advancing the development of a potential Alzheimer’s treatment to prevent and even reverse the disease.
  • Servier Virtual Cardiac Centre: One of the many innovations funded by the Foundation at the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute, this cutting-edge 3D imaging technology allows doctors to see the heart in unprecedented detail, improving diagnostic accuracy and treatment planning.
  • Type 1 Diabetes Stem Cell Reprogramming: This world-class research by Dr. James Shapiro is aimed at reprogramming patients’ own cells to produce insulin, which could eliminate the need for injections and provide a long-awaited solution for diabetes patients.
  • Stroke Diagnosis and Treatment Improvements: The University Hospital Foundation famously funded Canada’s first stroke ambulance, providing faster, more accurate diagnostics which help ensure timely treatment and better outcomes for stroke patients.

Gail Stepanik-Keber, Chief Catalyst, Strategic Marketing and Alliances of the University Hospital Foundation, describes the creative campaign as a complete breakthrough for the health philanthropy category. “The University Hospital Foundation is thrilled with the beauty, impact and intimate storytelling of the campaign, and particularly the animated tv spots. We consider ourselves agents of hope, and this campaign truly embodies the passion we have for helping Albertans, live longer, healthier lives.”
