Edmonton, AB – March 12, 2020 – Full House Lottery launched its 27th consecutive year at a kick-off event today in the 2020 grand prize homes. Nearly 100 guests, including physicians and patients, Foundation representatives and supporters, gathered to celebrate the grand premiere and tour the dream homes.

Closing Gap in Women’s Health through Research   

Researchers at the Lois Hole Hospital for Women are working to understand and treat the unique health challenges women face. Donors have helped to forge a path to close the gap on disparities in women’s health and women’s health research through funding for groundbreaking research in mature women’s health, obstetrics and gynecology, ovarian cancer, and perinatal mental health. Dollars raised through this year’s lottery will provide research dollars that lay down the track for clinical care to follow, ensuring the best outcomes possible for women of all ages and in all stages of life.   

“It is through research, that we are beginning to understand that there are significant differences in how men and women experience health conditions, including the prevalence of diseases, their causes, severity, and treatment,” said Andrew Otway, President and CEO of the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation.

Committed to putting an end to MS

Multiple Sclerosis is a chronic, neurodegenerative and inflammatory disease that attacks the central nervous system. According to researchers and clinicians at the University of Alberta Hospital, Alberta has one of the highest rates of Multiple Sclerosis in the world.

“The 2020 Full House Lottery will help drive research and patient care at the MS Clinic at the University of Alberta Hospital.”, said Dr. Jodi L. Abbott, President and CEO of the University Hospital Foundation. “Our long-term goal is a cure for this debilitating disease.”

Dr. Christopher Power, Co-Director of the MS Clinic at the University of Alberta Hospital and Vice Dean at the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry explains, “We are stronger together. Alberta is uniquely positioned to bring different skills and trailblazing research to the table with our collaborative approach that will ultimately lead us one step closer to earlier diagnosis and to finding a cure.” 

Since its inception, Full House Lottery has raised over $86 million to support the University of Alberta Hospital and the Royal Alexandra Hospital. As leading clinical and research centers, these facilities provide advanced services to patients every year in such areas as cardiac care, women’s health, neonatal intensive care, transplantation, neurosurgery and trauma care.
