Finalist To Win $100,000 Donation
Edmonton AB – November 5, 2020 – The University Hospital Foundation (UHF) has been chosen as one of ten finalists in iA Financial Group’s Canada-wide philanthropic contest, out of almost 250 submissions, for a virtual, cultural and interpretation support program. UHF has the chance to win a donation of up to $100,000.
The program, called Lost in Translation, will help bridge service gaps faced by Indigenous peoples and non-English speakers by expanding the availability, knowledge, and capacity of professional medical translation services across Alberta through virtual care, cultural support, and translation and interpretive services.

“The $100,000 donation would make a significant impact on Indigenous and non-English speaking communities in Alberta and create the best possible healthcare experience.”
The program will provide cultural support for these communities through a virtual health model for delivering primary care. The program is also working to develop identified translation and interpretation services for Indigenous languages and dialects that are currently underserved or not served at all, and will expand translation and interpretation services for other non-English-speaking community members.
Supporters are invited to vote online at donations-contest.ia.ca/community for the two submissions they find the most inspiring from among the ten finalist submissions, until November 30, 2020.
A donation of $100,000 will be made to the 3 charities that receive the most votes and the remaining seven charities will each receive $10,000. Contest results will be announced on December 10, 2020.
