UHF President Joyce Mallman Law Retires After A Successful 32-year Career With The Foundation

Edmonton, AB – September 6, 2019 – The Board of Trustees of the University Hospital Foundation announced today that Joyce Mallman Law, President, will be retiring at the end of September 2019 capping off an outstanding 32 year career with the Foundation by celebrating the best year in the Foundation’s history.

Joyce Mallman Law, who has served as President of the University Hospital Foundation for the past 11 years, has not only shaped the successful work of the Foundation, but has also had a lasting impact on the quality of health care Albertans receive today. In the past ten years alone, thanks to her tireless leadership, the Foundation has raised over $200 million to support innovative and leading-edge health care services at the University of Alberta Hospital, the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute and the Kaye Edmonton Clinic.

Highlights of Joyce’s career at the Foundation include:

  • Quadrupling annual revenues since 2008 to $40 million in 2018/19
  • Playing a key role in every fundraising campaign, including the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute and Campaign for Prostate Health, to deliver world-class healthcare in the community
  • Achieving industry recognition for financial and fundraising leadership, including High Performer Status from the Association of Healthcare Philanthropy, and Imagine Canada accreditation
  • Leading the Brain Centre Campaign which has brought tremendous advances to brain care in Alberta, and is wrapping up at the end of September with over $70 million raised since 2011

In June, Joyce received a 2019 Lifetime Achievement Award from Alberta Health Services, recognizing her extraordinary efforts and achievements that have had a significant impact on healthcare in Alberta. “The impact Joyce has had on healthcare at the University of Alberta Hospital, the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute and the Kaye Edmonton Clinic has been outstanding. The Foundation is extremely grateful for the years of leadership she provided to the Foundation and the relationships she developed with so many donors in our community. Her passion for healthcare and for making a difference in people’s lives has driven her to achieve extraordinary results.” – Jim Brown, Chair, Board of Trustees

“This community is amazing. There are many deeply generous and visionary individuals in Alberta that have donated their time and treasure to make amazing advancements in the medical field possible, right here at the University of Alberta Hospital. I’ll definitely miss working with our donors, outstanding Board of Trustees and staff, dedicated volunteers, and the incredible team at Alberta Health Services.” – Joyce Mallman Law

Joyce shared earlier this year it was her intention to retire after the University Hospital Foundations highly successful Brain Centre Campaign, which is wrapping up in late September. The Board of Trustees has undertaken an extensive search for her replacement, for which an announcement will be forthcoming.
