National Philanthropy Day: 2022

On November 15, 2022 the University Hospital Foundation (UHF) celebrated National Philanthropy Day by recognizing some of our incredible supporters. In honour of their outstanding support and charitable contributions, nominees each received recognition through the Edmonton chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

Whether inspired by a personal healthcare challenge or a deeply held value, business owner or community member, we are fortunate and grateful for the generosity of our donors. By supporting healthcare teams and researchers through the UHF, each and every donor is helping transform health care here in Alberta and around the world.

Thank you to our many visionary and generous donors, and congratulations to our 2022 recipients of the National Philanthropy Day Award.

SuperMun & Friends Charity Golf Tournament

Over the past four years, the SuperMun & Friends Charity Golf Tournament raised nearly $100,000 in support of cardiac care. Profoundly affected by heart disease with the loss of their friend and family member, Mandeep (Mun) Grewal four years ago, they put their grief to work for the positive.

The money they raise supports advanced technology, innovative procedures, and cutting-edge research that enables the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute to provide leading-edge patient care from diagnosis to surgery, to rehabilitation and beyond. By embracing the cause, the SuperMun & Friends Charity Golf Tournament is creating a legacy for their beloved friend and family member.

The SuperMun & Friends Charity Golf Tournament’s dedication has not gone unnoticed, and we are honored to recognize them with this award.

Qualico Developments West Ltd

A long-standing supporter of the University Hospital Foundation for the past 20 years, Qualico Developments West Ltd’s $750,000 gift to the West Edmonton Kidney Care Centre is making it easier for people living on dialysis to transition to home therapies. Their commitment to making life better for Albertans living with end-stage kidney disease speaks volumes to the incredible impact that corporate partners have on the communities they work in.

The University Hospital Foundation thanks Qualico Developments West Ltd for their dedication and commitment to philanthropic excellence over their many years of support.

Durabuilt Windows & Doors

Since 2017, Durabuilt Windows & Doors have been loyal supporters of the Mazankowski Heart Institute and Heart Pledge Day. Durabuilt is passionate about bringing innovation in health care to life. Through their commitment to supporting and contributing to the advancement of our local communities, they have donated more than $300,000 to the University Hospital Foundation in support of multiple UHF causes, including Heart Pledge Day and the Guru Nanak Maz Healing Garden.

Brad & Leanne Smoliak

Brad & Leanne Smoliak have been avid fundraisers and supporters of the University Hospital Foundation for more than 10 years. Brad is a proud owner of a ventricular assist device (VAD) – a mechanical heart. And he has made it his goal to give back to the care teams that are saving his life. Since 2011, they have raised more than $84,000 while bringing awareness to the world-class medical programs and technology at the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute (Maz). Not only do they fundraise for the UHF; they also volunteer their time at the Maz, mentoring new VAD patients and raising money for many local Edmonton non-profits.

We offer our heartfelt gratitude to Brad and Leanne for their incredible generosity. Their support has helped open the doors to increased support for every patient who enters the Maz.

On behalf of all of our patients, thank you.
