The Kaye Competition is a partnership between the University Hospital Foundation, the University of Alberta Hospital (inclusive of the Kaye Edmonton Clinic and the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute), made possible through a $30 million donation from Mr. Donald Kaye to the Foundation in 2012 — one of the largest donations in the history of Canadian healthcare philanthropy.
The annual competition awards individuals or collaborative teams pursuing research, innovation or quality improvement programs and projects that will establish new approaches to patient care.
Project budgets can range from $25,000 to $250,000

75% of funding is restricted to cancer, pulmonary, diabetes and neurology.
The annual competition awards individuals or collaborative teams pursuing research, innovation or quality improvement programs and projects that will establish new approaches to patient care.
Applicants may include physicians, nurses and allied health staff of the University of Alberta Hospital (UAH), which is inclusive of the Kaye Edmonton Clinic (KEC) and Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute (MAZ), and students or researchers in health disciplines from another faculty through joint application with an affiliate of the UAH. The research or quality improvement program or project must directly impact the care of patients at the UAH.

Visit Kaye Competition 2025 – University Hospital Foundation to apply and submit your Letter of Intent (LOI). Deadline for submission of LOI is November 17th, 2025 at 4:00 p.m. MST
Steering Committee reviews and evaluates applications.
Successful LOI applicants will be notified and invited to submit Full Proposals.
Competition winners will be notified in June 2026.
