Looking back on a record-breaking year

November 15, 2024 | Edmonton, AlbertaThe University Hospital Foundation officially released its 2023-2024 Annual Report today. The report highlights the impressive fundraising achievements of the organization and the transformational clinical care and health research projects it is funding.

For the sixth year in a row, the number of donations to the University Hospital Foundation reached new heights. This growth is a testament to the kindness of donors and the critical advancements in research and patient care at the University of Alberta Hospital, the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute and the Kaye Edmonton Clinic.

“Our annual report provides a snapshot into the tremendous generosity of our donors, the incredible work of our clinicians and researchers, and the impact of those groups coming together to help transform and redefine health,” said Dr. Jodi Abbott, President and CEO of the University Hospital Foundation.

In 2023-2024, the University Hospital Foundation distributed $14.7 million to clinical care and health research projects at the University of Alberta Hospital, the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute and the Kaye Edmonton Clinic.

The list of critical projects funded by the Foundation is long and varied and includes those that will:

  • Improve quality of care for patients diagnosed with pancreatic cancers
  • Promote synergies in research for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias
  • Combine clot-busting drugs with Sonolysis ultrasound to improve outcomes after heart attacks
  • Utilize AI and machine learning to maximize the amount of usable data extracted from cardiac images to improve diagnostic processes

“While it’s important to reflect on the previous fiscal year, our foundation team is looking ahead and working towards our strategic plan, Ignite 2030. From funding a potential cure for Alzheimer’s disease to creating new pathways for people with diabetes and those at risk for heart disease – the Foundation continues to ignite health transformation,” says Abbott.
