Festival of Trees comes to the rescue for Emergency care. An anonymous donor spreads Christmas cheer. And UHF’s Medical Research Competition celebrates ten years of making an impact.

More than 35,000 people attend the Festival of Trees

The numbers are starting to pour in… And Edmonton’s favourite kickoff to Christmas knocked it out of the park once again! From November 30 to December 3, 2017, more than 35,000 people took in the spectacle of the 33rd Annual Festival of Trees at the Shaw Conference Centre – the incredible displays of Christmas trees and ornaments, engaging performances on the Entertainment Stage and of course, breakfast with Santa!

Festival of Trees Volunteers are already busy planning the 34th Festival. Mark your calendars for November 29 to December 2, 2018!

The 2017 Festival of Trees proudly supported advancing emergency care at the University of Alberta Hospital. Thanks to your support, people will be treated quicker and get home sooner.

Anonymous donor spreads Christmas cheer all over Edmonton

All the trees, wreaths, gingerbreads, cakes and creative pieces you see at the Festival of Trees are auctioned off at the Festival of Trees Gala Evening & Auction – one of Edmonton’s premier invite-only events – night before the Festival opens to the public. All funds raised from the auction support the Festival of Trees’ Annual Cause.

At the 2017 Gala Evening & Auction, a generous anonymous donor purchased all of the items remaining at the end of the night, and donated them to charities and organizations across Edmonton.

The Zebra Centre, Bissell Centre, and several hospital units at the University of Alberta Hospital, were delighted to receive a piece of the Festival of Trees to brighten the holidays for the people they support.

Innovation starts with the UHF’s Medical Research Competition – celebrating the impact of 10 years

For researchers, receiving funding through the University Hospital Foundation’s Medical Research Competition (UHFMRC) is incredibly valuable – providing seed funding for their research projects before they even begin. The UHFMRC is also a powerful tool for leveraging research funding – enabling researchers to collect valuable data that can be used to pursue much larger research grants.

In the past 10 years, donors to the University Hospital Foundation have contributed $5M toward advancing research through the Medical Research Competition. This funding has been leveraged into… in federal and international grants.

“It’s exciting to see the incredible advancements that have been made possible by the UHF Medical Research Competition,” says Beth Ratzlaff, Stewardship & Accountability Coordinator with the University Hospital Foundation. “The partnership we have with the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry is crucial to getting research from the lab and into clinical care.”
