Philanthropy Officer
Our Background
At the University Hospital Foundation, we want to help people live longer, and better – especially those who would benefit from a new form of treatment, or life-saving surgery.
As agents of hope, we boldly seek solutions to seemingly insurmountable challenges, matching the determination and purpose-driven intensity of the healthcare teams we support.
In the past ten years, generous donations from individuals and our corporate and strategic partners have contributed nearly $220 million dollars to advance world-leading patient care at the University of Alberta Hospital, Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute and Kaye Edmonton Clinic, as well as ground-breaking research at the University of Alberta.
Your Purpose
Under the guidance of the Director of Philanthropy, you will assume a role dedicated to establishing and nurturing enduring philanthropic relationships with potential donors and prospects. This role centers on identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a portfolio of major gift and planned giving prospects with a vested interest in providing financial support to the University of Alberta Hospital site. Demonstrating adeptness in primary soliciting individual donations and grant opportunities and through various mediums, including face-to-face meetings, telephone calls, virtual meetings and correspondence, is essential. As Philanthropy Officer, you will strategically coordinate efforts to advance the University Hospital Foundation’s financial objectives, collaborating effectively with stakeholders across the University of Alberta Hospital, the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute, and the Kaye Edmonton Clinic. This role demands both independent initiative and collaborative expertise in securing investments exceeding $10,000 as well as planned gift intentions.
Your Role
As the Philanthropy Officer, your primary responsibility is to manage a diverse portfolio of approximately 175 prospects and donors, developing tailored solicitation strategies for major and planned giving initiatives. Your role extends to ensuring effective stewardship and recognition of donors within your portfolio while actively participating in securing significant gifts. Collaborating closely with not only the Development Team but all teams of UHF, you will demonstrate leadership by navigating a research-intensive hospital environment with discretion and professionalism. Your commitment to staying informed about industry trends and news will be integral to your success in generating revenue and contributing to the Foundation’s annual budget. Additionally, you will manage your portfolio by devising comprehensive cultivation and solicitation plans for each while maintaining meticulous records of donor interactions and progress. Join us in telling impactful stories and driving positive change at the University of Alberta Hospital sites!
This position of Philanthropy Officer will have a focus on planned giving (PG) and thus up to 70% of your pool will focus on securing new PG intentions and stewardship of those who have confirmed a gift to UHF in their will. The remaining portion of your pool will be comprised of major giving donors and prospects. There may be overlap where major gift donors are also PG donors.
